Spinal Cord Injury Program

Our program for people with Acquired Brain Injuries combines individual attention with a high level of personal care assistance, nutritional management, physical and psychological rehabilitation and care management. Our goal from admission is determining and planning for how we can assist the new resident to be integrated back into their respective communities.

Therapeutic Activities in Home-like Surroundings

Our community-blended therapy provides a wide range of activities which build a resident’s physical, cognitive, psychosocial and social skills.

The program is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. Additional specialized nursing services, dietitian services and individualized therapies prescribed by other professionals, such as psychologists, psychiatrist, and physicians, are available when needed.

Functional-Based Outcomes

Our program goals include participation in life activities at the highest possible level of function and independence. We provide ongoing training in “Basic Adaptive Skills,” such as good hygiene, dressing and undressing appropriately, learning how to properly care for clothing, eating skills and table manners. We teach “Home Environment Skills,” such as how to properly launder clothing, meal preparation, basic nutrition, kitchen equipment skills, housekeeping and safety at home skills.

We focus on “Health.” Residents acquire a basic knowledge about good health, illnesses and injuries. We teach “Communication Skills,” such as verbal communication, and basic social interacting and etiquette. We assist in developing “Community Skills,” in basic money concepts, shopping and planning meaningful leisure activities. The program is staffed 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

Community In-Home Support Services

Echols Support Services also offers support services in your own home that include personal care such as toileting, eating/feeding, bathing, grooming, dressing, transferring, mobility, medication administration, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, transportation to doctors appointments, and light house cleaning. We have trained staff that are experienced with handling catheter/leg bags.

Programs

We also encourage lots of fun and games with an emphasis on fitness. Community visits range from sporting events, to visits to arcades, go kart racing, restaurants, museums, concerts in the park, movies, shopping and trips to local areas such as Birch Run, Frankenmuth and Downtown Detroit. Each person is encouraged to participate in an exercise program. Saturday bowling is routine.

We deliver 24-hours of services to our residents. Many chores are done while residents are asleep. During their wake hours, our care giver staff teach and assist residents by helping them perform household duties such as laundry, grocery shopping, budgeting, cleaning various areas of the home and dusting their rooms.

A Home Coordinator is assigned to each home to insure a cohesively well managed operation.
